How to Survive Boring Activities

Let's face it, we all get bored sometimes, and then there are times when we must do things that are actually boring, such as doing chores around the house and completing homework assignments. Here are a list of things that you can do to diminish the boredom a task, but keep in mind that not all of these solutions will work for all boring actions. Furthermore, none of these strategies are for everyone, as it all depends on what works best for an individual.

  1. Listen to music. This one works for a lot of people, although I used to think listening to music, or at least music that I like, was too distracting for me. However, as a Disney Fan who mostly listens to Disney music, I have discovered that I like to listen to Instrumental covers of Disney songs while studying.

    1. Here is a playlist of some of my favorite Disney instrumental music: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=81Qe3Xl4hSg&list=PL0dAXwLhO696w99kT7k1zNYNTOd0

  2. Chew gum or suck on hard candy. This is another one that many people find helps them. In fact, I remember that the only time that we were allowed to chew gum in elementary school was during standardized tests, and I think letting us do so then, despite being against school's policies, was a good idea because I appreciate having something enjoyable to taste that will last in my mouth during things that are otherwise boring.

  3. Make the room smell good. I this is another one I do all the time for exactly the same reasons why gum and hard candy help, except with the sense of smell rather than taste. I mostly do this by spraying a fragrance, but you can also burn a scented candle or adding your favorite essential oil to a diffuser if you own one.

  4. Listen to ambience sounds. Personally I can get easily distracted by silence, so sometimes when the room is too quiet yet I don't feel like listening to music, I will go to YouTube and ambience sound videos. I like to listen to mostly campfire, rain, or forest like noise, but you can also find sounds of waves if you like beaches as well as city ambience if you like sounds of crowds talking and vehicles moving.

  5. Fidget with something. This might include fidget spinners, squishy toys, and things like putty and slime, I think that this helps when listening to a boring lecture.

  6. Listen to a podcast. this is one that I haven't tried, but I have heard some people at my college say they like to do while doing things throughout the day. I would say just find a podcast about a topic that interests you.
